How does Piggy portray courage in Lord of the Flies?

Piggy doesn't really portray courage as much as intellect. His symbol in everyday society is intellect because he is often overlooked, yet his ideas are the most sensible and rational. I suppose he portrays courage with the fact that even though Ralph has given up hope and he thinks that Jack will rule everyone, Piggy refuses to believe it and urges Ralph on.
