Symbolic interactionism says that instead of thinking as society in terms of abstract institutions, symbolic interactionists see immediate social interaction to be the place where society "exists". People give meaning to their behavior and this is how we interpret other behavior, events, etc. When using this viewpoint you rely on the meanings you give to certain things to process what happens around you. For example, why do you stop at a red light when driving?
Is there some type of elusive power that the red light has over your car causing it to stop? No. You have given a symbolic meaning to a red light and that meaning is to stop.
Or another example could be women who are carriers for certain diseases that could pass to their children; there is a good chance that their children could suffer from whatever disease the mother is a carrier of but these women may still have children despite objective medical advice. Why? Because, to many women they have defined their status as a woman to be one that involves having children (being a women=having babies).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
