Depends Permanent residents (green card holders)would have to be covered. In all fairness permanent residents bear almost all the rights and responsibilities of citizens. They must pay taxes, so why would they not be eligible for the benefits paid for with those taxes?

As far people on different work visas, It should be required that their employers supply insurance as part of their contract and who are we talking about? Foreign actors, musicians etc There is so much money floating around in entertainment that an extra $500 tacked on a Hugh Grant movie? They already pay thousands in performance insurance.

If you are talking about Indian engineers, if there employers must pay an extra $1000 month for family medical insurance maybe that will make hiring Americans more attractive Seriously the only way it will work is do what Canada does and include everyone. If you start excluding people, they won't go to the Dr when a shot or advice will take care of the problem. They will wait until they are more seriously ill and have to go the ER at 10 times the cost of a Dr visit.

The taxpayer would end up eating the cost. That's one of the reasons we want universal coverage to begin with, it's cheaper in both human and economic terms.

2 galileogirl, regarding your answer "Depends":I can understand why Green Card holders would probably be covered,... but there doesn't seem to be a clear answer re: work visas... such as Mexicans or Canadians who legally cross the boarder every day/week/month to work in The States, but are permanent residents/citizens of another country, those that are coming over for shoots, design, teaching, what have you.... Im just asking if anyone knows if the proposed plans would include or exclude these people from coverage and/or forced insurance coverage or not...

3 Canadians woud be nuts to come here for coverage with the plan they have. Did you see Michael Moore's 'Sicko' Americans use a Canadian address to be eligible under their system. American Srs.

Take day trips across the border because they can fill their prescriptions at half price. Actually a Canadian woman who was having 5 or 6 babies came to the U.S. Because the closest hospital with the right resources was here and CANADA PAID her bill. If anybody is excluded it won't matter.

Anyone who goes to an emergency room for an emergency situation will be treated as they are now. Can you imagine an ER that refuses someone injured in a car accident or suffering from appendicitis (sp? ) and they die?

It just won't happen, they will get well and go home, the hospital will send an inflated bill and in the end use it a tax deductionWhat we need is to turn the clock back to the 60's when necessary health care was not for profit.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
