How far should deck joists that cantilever out past the deck posts overhang the girder?

16 inches is way off usually it is 1/4 to 1/3 of the size of the deck that can overhang depending on size of the deck and material you use more.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
