If you turn the router into an AP, you turn the router into a switch. Then plug in your powerline into the LAN side, not the WAN side. You can then configure it to broadcast WIFI.
Since it is a switch, you should be able to plug in your "console" to the switch/LAN side of the AP and it should work as before. "Console" do you mean desktop or laptop or something with an IP? Update: Did not know that existed, thanks David.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
