I have raised tropical fish for a long time and in the beginning I used to find Ichthyophthirius multifilis - Ich getting into my tanks all the time. I stopped the problem by quarantining new fish and plants for two weeks in a separate tank before putting them into the main tank. Here is what I did to treat the ich and what I now do to prevent it.
