How long do you have to train to become a jazz musician?

Technically, anyone can call himself a jazz musician. There is no set formula or time frame to determine when a student could advance enough to be compared to greats such as Dizzy Gillespie or Miles Davis. Generally, the musician will lean towards a style of music and study what comes almost naturally to him.

What separates an average jazz musician from a great one is the talent that pours out of him. He can read the notes or hear the music and ad lib as if he had been practicing for years. Techniques can be practiced to improve one’s performance to become a more solid performer if one desires to play better.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
