They don't, actually. He's "leading the polls" because there are 16 candidates splitting the rest of the vote. As they drop out, the votes will consolidate behind someone.
But the polls show that people now supporting Bush, Kasich, Carson and the rest of them would not switch to supporting Trump if their candidate bows out. It's early yet.
Many have become disillusioned with "establishment Republicans". They still remember how George W. Bush sold out on his Conservatism, resulting in the addition of $5 trillion in debt and the mortgage meltdown.
The Tea Partiers and others have been trying to drag the Republican Party, kicking and screaming, back to it's Conservative roots. Trump is blunt and has little respect for the status quo. This is refreshing to many.
He is not sugar coating what the problems are in the country that need addressing. He is seen to see clearly what it takes to get a healthy, robust economy going again. Whether this image will hold up, we shall see.
His spiteful irreverence has cost him though. He says he can make deals, but this is not showing itself in his behavior. He is more of a bully.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
