I'll give you a quick history of Islam between other religions and the true goal of Islam. Before the rise of Islam which taken place in Saudi Arabia which was once under the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire) the Christians built their churches within towns and cities are the pillars of those communities they were not always utilized for religious purposes and Christians liked to build churches on top of holy sites which involved Jesus, His Mother, and other Saints. As a church was the pillar of a Christian community in a town or city a synagogue would be the pillar of a Jewish community in a town or city.
Islam does not exist peacefully despite what lies you heard their true goal is conquest both political and religious in fact Islam risen in a rebellion against the Byzantine Empire. Like Christians and Jews that have structures within towns and cities being churches and synagogues Islam has mosques but Muslims are different when they had conquered their enemies in war often the Christan as well as other religions sacred places would be destroyed like the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem which was destroyed by Muslims and the Christians were brutally murdered in the church this symbolizes the defeat of their enemies. It's not also uncommon for Muslims to build a mosque on a prior religion's sacred place like a church, or synagogue, or temple showing Islams conquest of the world by taking over these peoples of other religions like the Al-Aqsa Mosque built where the Third Temple would had been built and the Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba which is built upon a Catholic church.
This is why it pissed people off after the 9-11 attack when Muslims were planning on building a mosque on top of where the World Trade Tower once standed I guarantee you this was not out of compassion for the victims of the attack but rather a symbol of conquest of Islam of course no Muslim in their right mind would admit to this being it would tarnish the image of Islam they want to show the world. ISIL and other Muslims have different means of conquest but have no doubt that is what they both want.
They are iconoclasts - they will destroy every object, including paintings, that promote idolatry or try to depict God. It is against Muslim religion to make anything visual about God or pagan gods. The ancient artefacts in Palmyra and elsewhere which show the deities worshipped by the pagans offend their religious sensibilities, so they smash them.
But that is not the worst of it. A TV documentary only a couple of months ago examined the start of the destruction of Palmyra by ISIS, with archaeologists expressing horror at the wanton devastation to ancient Syrian culture. One of them rightly pointed out that history shows that when a group deliberately sets out to destroy the symbols of its enemies culture, they soon move on to destroying the people of that culture.
This is happening also. Just a few days ago, ISIS beheaded an 82 year old professor of archaeology who stayed in the area. He had devoted most of his life to discovering this ancient culture and refused to bow to the will of ISIS.
They called him a heretic, claiming he had links to Christians and the hated Shia Muslims, and so they beheaded him. This monstrous evil that propels ISIS is shown openly by such wickedness - murdering people in order to force others to either flee from them, or to join them. Hitler's Nazi rule was no different.
They are its successors.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
