How many Dual Core Xeon Processors can I use with Windows XP Professional?

I'm trying to built a new computer, but I'm not sure that I can install Windows XP Professional in a 2 Dual Core Xeon Processor environment. I want to make sure the computer takes advantage of all 4 cores. Windows XP Professional supports up to two processors If you have two dual-core processors, Windows XP will use them both, for a total of four processing units. And if you enable hyperthreading on those processors, you get eight virtual processors out of the deal! Similarly, Windows XP Home supports one processor, but you if your one processor is a dual-core processor, then it will use both cores.

Windows XP with SP2 is capable of supporting multiple physical sockets and multiple-core designs. Windows XP supports two sockets. These sockets can both be filled with Duo Core Xeon Processors, leading to a four core environment.

This has been demonstrated numerous times. So, if you have two dual-core processors, Windows XP will use them both, for a total of four processing units. And if you enable hyperthreading on those processors, you get eight virtual processors out of the deal!

Similarly, Windows XP Home supports one processor, but if your one processor is a dual-core processor, then it will use both cores. Here are some articles from MSFT knowledge database that supports this: support.microsoft.com/?id=896256 support.microsoft.com/kb/888732 http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/highlights/multicore.mspx Below is an article that was written in 2005 that also supports this. I've also included a pic of system with 2 dual-core processors installed - just for kicks.

Computex 2005 Better late than never, forever By Charlie Demerjian: woensdag 01 juni 2005, 18:56 INTEL HAD TWO COPIES of the upcoming server chipset called ’Blackford’ at Computex, the first public airing It uses the Dual Independent Bus, dual CPU Xeon chipset with four FB-DIMM channels. This Blackford was at the Tyan booth, and supposedly at the Asus booth, but no one could find it there. The one at Tyan was running without an apparent hitch for two days, and had two Dempseys in it, dual core with 1MB cache per core.

The chips were running at an indicated 01 juni0GHz on a 1066FSB. CPU-Z was not recognising it because it was coming up as a 90nm Nocona core which it is not, but that is no big shock. Blackford is the kick off chipset for the new LGA771 Xeons we told you about exclusively a few months ago.It also gives each socket it’s own FSB meaning that it won’t have to halve the bandwidth for each socket.

There is also a handful of FBD channels, some people say there were only two functional on this board out of the four that should be in the final product. Rumours floating around the show says that there are problems with Blackford, but that was quickly shot down by more knowledgeable people who said it is very healthy for a chip in the current stage of development. Expect a new stepping in a month or two, and that should be the final release.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
