There's no standard definition of what constitutes an assault weapon, so it's impossible to say. Handguns, most of which generally aren't considered assault weapons, account for over 70% of firearm murders. Most criminals don't use legally obtained weapons (assault or otherwise).
If you mean guns, then yea, gun related deaths are pretty high and the rates for a legal gun used are pretty high. Typical murder scene is someone getting mad at someone else, grabbing a gun and shooting the other person. This is your typical scene.
Most of the murders committed by guns have been with handguns because they are not only easier to get, they are also cheaper and there are far more on the street. Assault rifles typically haven't killed many people because the few people who get their hands on them are very responsible people and lock them away securely. Usually these people have them as a hobby and they really don't go out into bars picking fights and when they in a situation like that, they are very mature about it and have a way to deal with other than guns.
Our biggest killing group are males between the ages of 17 and 31, which accounts for 76% of the crimes. This same age denomination has become the newest group expanding in the NRA so it's quite scary to see that. One particular frightening even it that after Sandy Hook, purchases of assault rifles skyrocketed.
This is dangerous, as this isn't the typical person who used to buy guns before that. In a few years from now, possibly 10 years, the crimes relating to assault rifles will definitely go way up. This is because most of the people who got those guns aren't as well inform as they are supposed to be.
There's another whole aspect apart to knowing your gun, and that's knowing how safe you are. I highly doubt these recent buyers know anything because they bought it out of fear. Most of the guys who buy assault rifles have been dealing with guns for years after turning a mature age.
A lot of the people buying don't particularly know the role of guns in their household and I high suspect that if they bought them out of fear, then any little event is enough to spook them to go crazy. I own assault rifles and I have friends that I met through our mutual interest guns who also have assault rifles. None of us bought assault rifles till we turned 40, after our kids were either in High school, or off to college.
And we are pretty good with guns already to the point that we can dissemble a gun and reassmble it but also know how to prevent people from getting that gun. It's just scary to know that people out there who might have had very little experience with guns buy assault rifles.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
