Well I can do at least 30 and I am a girl. So way more than 30 ha.
Your not going to get super huge arms from just push ups but I would try doing harder variations of as many as you can you can also try the hundred push up challege hundredpushups.com.
Well it all depends on the techniques you do...you should do about 50 push ups a day, and also use the dumbbells to get bigger arms faster, but it all depends on the technique...do about 40 lifts with the dumbbells, 20 on each arm.
Do 90 push ups two times a day. Swear you'll see results.
If you do 500 push ups a day you will see chest results (Even if you do 30 a day), and defined arms (This is the problem, the arms with push ups). But you need to do a lot. Maybe 500 is too much, but at least 250 every second day.(Don't do everyday).
Anyway, push ups won't make your arm bigger, unless you flex. If you want your natural state arm to be bigger, you must use actual weights. The only exercise I can think of that will make your arms bigger is bench dips.
They work out triceps, and the triceps is like 80% of your upper arm or something. If you don't know what they are, YouTube it.

Now, you can build muscle with Resistance training. I know that there are machines that work on specific body parts. Also I thought of another, gett a Punching bag or even buying weights to wear while you work out.
Due to health issues, it's been a while since I worked out but Pilates has an Excellent program for the body strengthening. Years ago and I'M sure even now people use ball playing to build muscle. Football and Basketball would help, especially my favorite, B-ball!
Lol! Get a Resistance training DVD and substitute Resistance bands with weights. Do the it will help and most important is try drinking Protein powder while building up your muscles.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
