Not unless it's the EXACT SAME model disc drive. When replacing a PS3 disc drive, it MUST be the EXACT same model else it won't work as it's "married" to that specific model. So if you replace it with a different model, it will not read it, it will show as an invalid device and won't work.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
