Well, sounds like she altered it to suit you. Although I am sure she charged, I think if you are pleased with her, you might tip her $10 or $20 dollars. If you feel like you just got regular service, then don't tip.

A lot of people think that if you pay, then a tip is unnecessary. I think that is really a shabby way to think. If she did anything extra for you, then a tip is deserved.

But, you are not required to tip her anything. Totally up to you.

I'm not sure that this is a situation that requires a tip above and beyond what you pay for the actual service. But if you really want to tip do like you would at a restaurant, I guess: 10-20% of whatever you paid for the work. If it was really outstanding or done very speedily, maybe even more.

I live in New York. We tip everyone. Heck if someone says "God bless you" when you sneeze they expect a tip.

:)I married off a daughter and she had alterations done at the bridal shop where she purchased her gown. The gown was X amount of dollars and then they told us the cost of the alterations. When she had her final fitting and we picked up the gown we did not leave a "tip" to anyone.

Why should we? We paid for the alterations and it was not cheap, I am speaking of an extra few hundred dollars. There were other brides picking up gowns and I did not see any money passing hands.

The price of the gown and the alteration fee had to be paid up front so there was no discussion of money or tips whatsoever.

I never tipped the person who helped me...she did it for cheap...$20 and even came with me to buy lace etc.. Just give her more business by recommending her to others.
