Yes, and no. Biologically... Throughout our entire menstrual cycle hormonal changes have a huge impact on our bodies in a number of ways, including neurological changes that impact on our moods - thus our moods are different throughout our cycles, it's not just during menstruation that hormones influence our emotions. The idea that women turn into emotional wrecks who are over-sensitive or moody during menstruation is a myth, that idea women are slaves to hormones so become irrational and emotional as a result comes from sexist ideas within our culture and not from biology.
Socially... Women are expected to hide our emotions in order to avoid being viewed as 'emotional', however socially we're conditioned to to expect PMS and as such subconsciously we allow ourselves to be more emotional during menstruation - this is not the same as using menstruation as an excuse to be moody. Another factor is that menstruation is often seen as a negative thing within our culture, with women believing menstruation is gross or dirty and believing they have to tolerate issues like menstrual cramps, obviously if a woman feels unhappy with her body and suffers issues such as menstrual cramps during menstruation then she is more likely to feel upset. This is NOT to say that emotions felt by women during menstruation are not real - women do experience emotional changes during menstruation due to hormonal changes, and for a long time were told their experience wasn't real or people will try to dismiss their emotions as 'you're just on your period'.
How women are conditioned in regard to menstruation within the Western world however does have a huge impact on their experiences of menstruation - the idea that PMS is just 'part of being a women' that we have to tolerate or we're a weaker sex due to this is flawed.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
