How much does childcare/daycare cost per hour for a newborn?

I will be going back to work full time and my neighbor has offered to care for my 3 month old while my husband and I are at work, from 7am to 4pm, M-F. He will take care of the child in his own home. He is not certified legally to take care of children (but has raised 4 kids of his own; all successful adults).

He currently has some health problems (nothing that makes me feel uncomfortable leaving my child with him) and is applying for disability. He already receives assistance from the government for housing. How much should I offer to pay this man to take care of my child?

My husband thinks $200 a week is too much, but that is only $5/hr. Would it be acceptable to offer, say, $650/mo, or even less? Any input is appreciated...Thanks!

Larger childcare/daycare centers charge between around $100 and $800 per week. It depends on the location, caregiver/children ratio, any special needs (who pays for what), ...Like who pays for diapers, formula, ...http://childcare.about.com/od/evaluations/f/infantcare.htmhttp://pregnancy.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Cost_of_Having_a_Baby---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------How much should I offer to pay this man to take care of my child? I would say he should make at least $7 to $8 per hour depending on federal & your state's prevailing minimum wages; and you pay for reasonable expenses (diapers, formula, ...)dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htmKeep in mind "hiring" someone has federal (and possibly state/local) tax consequences, you might owe employment/payroll taxes for a "household" worker,or you might get a tax deduction if you employ a larger certified center.

It is sad, but in these days, you do not really know who you can trust. Besides various certifications, I would recommend a background check and some form of personality/psychology screening questionaire(s) to make sure your child is not exposed to risks which you could otherwise have forseen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------Would it be acceptable to offer, say, $650/mo, or even less? In my view,it is acceptable to offer whatever you can afford or are willing to pay;your first priority is to make sure your child is safe, andyour second priority is that you comply with any relevant governmental laws & regulations. Depends on where you live The answer to this question really depends a lot on where you live. I live in a very rural area so it is much cheaper here than in a city. Where I am from $200 a week would be plenty, even more than a lot of people pay.My son goes to a woman's home for daycare.

He is not the only child there. She charges 2.50/hr for kids over 1 year old and $3/hr for infants, she is comparable in price to everybody around here. A person watching just your child(ren) will typically make more money per child than a group care set-up, when I was finding care for our son it was around $4/hr for somebody to watch just my son.

I would call a couple daycare centers/houses and tell them you are thinking about returning to work and wanted to see how much daycare would cost just so you knew what expenses would be involved. Then you will have some idea of where to start from and I would just increase there cost a little bit and offer that amount to the man. Sources: my own experiece with dayare .

Well I agree with everyone else who said it depends on where you live. But what I would do is call around to a couple of daycare centers in your area and find out how much they would charge you to send your child there and you pay the man a lesser amount. I wouldnt pay anyone the same price that a daycare charges to keep my child especially if that person is not certified in any way or is just doing it out of their home.

For instance where I lived they charge $115 for my 2 year old, so if I decided to go with a neighbor instead I would offer to pay them maybe $85. I mean if you are going to pay them the same price as a daycare you might as well send them to the daycare atleast you know the people there are more experienced with dealing with other peoples children and not just their own.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
