If treating laminitis or founder, the Nolan Hoof Plateâ„¢ stays on for 16 - 20 weeks WITHOUT being removed or trimmed or reset. The horse is to be isolated and the hoof needs this time to heal. At the end of the treatment period the plates are removed, the hoof trimmed and the next steps determined by the hoof care team.
For other conditions such as cracks, sole growth, contracted heels, thin walls, etc. we suggest at least 8 – 12 weeks of treatment if possible. It is up to the farrier and horse owner to determine what is best in those situations, but most of the healing process occurs for these conditions in the first 8 – 12 weeks depending on severity.
