How old are the Carolina Panthers?

The origins of the Carolina Panthers Football Team started with the joint effort of North Carolina and South Carolina to acquire an NFL Franchise for the region. This effort began in 1987. The Carolina Panthers actually began play in 1995.

The following are points of note from that season. The Panthers became only the second expansion team (besides the Minnesota Vikings in 1961) to win their first game, winning the annual Hall of Fame Game against the fellow expansion Jacksonville Jaguars 20–14 on July 29, 1995 (a game known as the "Battle of the Big Cats," due to the similar nicknames of the franchises). The home games that first season were played at Clemson University, as the stadium was still under construction.
