Every time I log on nowadays I can't help noticing the number of questions that should be directed to Amazon - as if Askville were an Amazon help-desk. Today in the space of half an hour I've told people who are obviously writing to Amazon - with questions like 'do you carry XXX?' or 'how can I get you to promote my book/software/etc. ' that Askville isn't an Amazon help-desk. It can't be good for Amazon's customer relations when people come here hoping for an answer from Amazon.
Plus there are so many 'drop-in' questions about where to find other products - Amazon or not - that one can't see the wood for the trees. Part of the joy of Askville was that it was home to some really intelligent and/or controversial discussions - that used to be the answer to 'how is Askville different from Yahoo Answers? ' - and now it feels as if we're being transformed into a substitute search engine.

I don't worry about it. I figure if Amazon is that worried about it, they'll make changes. Perhaps they have someone over here reading all the questions and addressing the customer service ones.In any case, if they want to deal with it, they will.

LimeyDame, that's the whole point Amazon doesn't have the support staff to do the checking and looking. That's what separates them from "real" bookstores where there is available customer service, where helpers are walking around trying to assist people. That's also the reason why Amazon generally sells at a discount to the physical bookstores.So they invented Askville, with zillions of nice gullible and helpful people to assist the people with questions, offering supplying direct links to the items people want to buy.
We are in fact being played/used by Amazon to do the work that they would otherwise have to pay for. (Note - I simply don't answer that kind of question, on the theory that people should be able to help themselves. But that's a personal rule).
Bottom line, my surmise is that the current dynamic is what Amazon wants - lots of us helping customers to buy from them. (And if they didn't plan it that way, it sure has worked out well :-)) You can tell Askville management all you want, but they won't (and from a corporate view, shouldn't) change a thing..

They won't listen. Too many complaints have been lodged which are being ignored. On a similar vein to your question: One newer thing I've noticed is the habit we have (me definitely included) of giving answers in the DB lately.
There are various reasons for it, but my main ones are that I have only a little bit to say on the subject and don't feel as if it's a full answer worthy of a spot, or that I don't feel like being voted on about a comment. That's great, except when we do it on the DB of the suspected "drop-in" askers. They'll never see the comment since they only get an email of answers, not DB comments.
Therefore, the concept that they'll come in and look around Askville and decide we're a great little community to join is totally lost because they get absolutely no answers. I've seen some good answers completely wasted since they are on the DB for a "newbie askviller". As for Amazon/Askville listening to us- they won't.
I have no idea why they're being so stubborn because I think it's giving them a bad name to have so many customer service related questions go unanswered. It's also causing a slow death of Askville- at least the Askville as we know it. Sources: me .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
