Take the little chub-steak to the side and reason with her after a particularly bad fall on the reality that some people are just not cut out for sports or for being observed out in public for that matter. If you need to drive the message home ask her how she likes being the reason mummsey gets laughed at and ask her if it makes her feel all powerful to cause you this pain and embarrassment over and over without any regrets. Tell her that you hope she can give this up if she has any hope of growing up to be a good person.

It is hard. Maybe that's why she is stumbling. But if she really wants to do figure skating, and she has SUPPORT from you, and she doesn't give up, she will get better.
You know, most parents want their kids to be in some kind of athletic hobby. Why not let her keep skating? It's a great sport and she will become fit from it.
Finally, if your friends are that awful that they laugh at you because of your daughter... Don't invite to the rink. Ditch them. Go sit somewhere else.
Just don't let them define how you see yourself and your daughter.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
