I had once had a client who was an agent to athletes, up-and-coming bands, comedians. A lot of times an agent will be an attorney--they work out the fine details of the contracts and negotiate salaries. Here in Missouri we've got The St. Louis Rams AND on the other side of the state, The Kansas City Chiefs.
When I was renewing a license I hold, I saw the option of "Athlete Agent" in the pull-down menu. So here's what I can tell you about Missouri. Your state may differ.
There apparently is a whole Office of Athlete Agents. All of this info came from there: pr.mo.gov/athleteagents.asp It looks to me like they're talking more about scouts; I'm sure that any NFL player's contract is negotiated by an attorney. Nevertheless, there is some legal paperwork--such as an agency contract with exact wording required by the state).
A small bit of info from the FAQ on the site--the full document is too long to put here but you can get to it at the link above. Who is an Athlete Agent? €œAn individual who enters into an agency contract with a student-athlete or directly or indirectly recruits or solicits a student-athlete to enter into an agency contract.
The term does not include a spouse, parent, sibling, grandparent, or guardian of the student-athlete or an individual acting solely on behalf of a professional sports team or professional sports organization. The term includes an individual who represents to the pubic that the individual is an athlete agent. € What is the cost of an athlete agent registration?
The total cost is $79.25 ($40 application fee; $20 for a Missouri State Criminal 25 for a Federal Bureau of Investigations fingerprint records check). Registration is valid for two years and expires June 30 of even numbered years. You have to submit three references, .(and here's what makes me think it's not limited to students) names of players and teams for whom you've provided service in the last five years, photos of yourself (just like for a passport), fingerprint cards and an application.
Come up clean and with $80 or so, you're an Athlete Agent in The State of Missouri. Actually, if you read the bottom of Page 2 of the FAQ, it seems as if (and I don't know if this is correct but this is how I'm reading it) all you have to do is submit all that, pay the fee and you're instantly an Athlete Agent. If your criminal check has any dings on it and you say it doesn't, you could be looking at a revocation of your license, fines or jail time--when you sign the application, you certify that everything is true.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
