In this way you tell Search Engine that the content has moved to your new URL without loosing any ranking and avoiding duplicate content issues. I suppose you can do automatically with some server side code, but I do not know about Rail so I'm not able to answer this point.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
