I'd prefer not to have to kill them so your answers are much appreciated. I have small children and I won't have feral cats hanging around the house. Asked by cturtle 47 months ago Similar questions: annoying stray cats front porch Pets > Cats.

You can trap them and bring them to the Humane society. Why hurt them? .
Here are some things you can try. I do wonder why the cats are coming up on your porch, if you don’t have any cats inside. Do you have dog food on the porch?
If you have any food or water out there that might be attracting them, I would remove it for a while. If they are spray-marking your house or outdoor items, clean that off whenever you can--it only encourages other cats to mark there as well. There are sprays you can use that are supposed to ward off cats--apparently, they dislike the smell.
These have to be reapplied fairly often, but might work for you. If you are outside and see the cats, squirting them with a water pistol or squirt bottle will run them off, at least temporarily. It’s not necessary to spray them in the face, and only use water. It sounds like you might have a feral colony living near you.
You can contact your local animal control agency, to see if they will trap the cats for you. Also, many areas have feral programs where they trap the cats, spay or neuter them, and release them back. This helps to keep the population down.
Ask your local humane association or animal control facility if there is anyone who works with feral cats in your area. Sometimes they will find people to feed and water the cats (which may keep them off of your property, if they no longer have to search for food and shelter), and some will even trap and relocate feral cats. There is a national organization, Alley Cat Allies, that might be able to get you some help.

The very FIRST thing I would do is find out what is attracting them in the first place and put a stop to that. Is it shelter, food, water etc? What ever it is remove it. Something basic to their survival is attracting them to your front porch.
Second, if they are feral call the local humane society or animal control to come and pick them up. Third, I have used regular moth balls used to deter moths in storage closets, to deter our neighbors cats from using my flower beds as their outdoor litter box. Place the moth balls around the parameters of your home especially the front porch and favorite flower bushes etc. After a few days they will leave.
Cats do not like the smell of moth balls, (actually no one likes the smell of moth balls). They will leave and find a new place to hang out. Note: feral cats or any kind of stray or wild animal are dangerous due to diseases and rabies.
Remember killing animals are a crime in most states and cities, therefore they have very good animal control or animal shelters to handle such issues. I suggest calling them before killing them. Good luck and stay safe.
Well maybe I should not tell this but it works I have a bb gun right by the door and every time I see one I shoot at it. Close but not to hit it after awhile they don't want to come to my house and all's ok till new ones move in .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
