Not sure who has focus during a drag and drop. But an alternative solution to your problem would be to add a KeyEventDispatcher for your Stone class to the KeyboardFocusManager . From the JavaDoc.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
