Brittle nails can be caused from anemia, poor diet, aging, infections both bacterial and fungus related, frequent use of nail polishes, psoriasis, thyroid problems, and other disorders and conditions. Our nails tell a lot about our bodies. So when someone notices changes in their body, including their nails, they should mention it to their doctors.
Brittle nails can be treated by applying a moisturizing lotion to the nail on a regular basis. There are over the counter treatments for this located in the nail beauty section of a value or drug store. Some are available in paint on form just like nail polish, so it's easier to apply it directly onto the nail.
I used one from Avon in the past and had good results with it. There is a vitamin used for this called biotin, but this should be avoided by pregnant, and nursing women. Taking a daily multivitamin that includes iron and increasing the protein of the diet should also help.
Also avoid the use of nail polishes, which can worsen the condition. For something effective and yet cheap, try soaking the nails a few times a week in vegetable oil.
You can try to prevent brittle nails, by not allowing them to sit in water for long periods of time. Also consider wearing gloves to avoid contact with harmful chemicals.
A Women pedicure involves cleansing the feet, nail care and a foot massage. Every 4-6 weeks it is a good idea to home pedicure as well as manicure for keeping your toenails and feet looking healthy and feeling good. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes in warm, soapy water containing a small amount of bleach (100 parts water mixed with 1 part bleach) so your feet will be clean and smell fresh.
Using too much bleach will cause the cuticles to dry out and they will become sore and cracked.
