Marie the central theme of both conflicts regarding government were states rights. In both conflicts, the citizens of the US believed in a weak federal government, with most powers of governess going to the individual states. England dictated to their "colonies," including taxation without representation, and governess over all matters concerning the colonies In 1860, the southern states were represented as a minority voting block, and many tariffs were passed, which were unfavorable to the southern states.
They were unable to muster enough support to vote their interests at the federal level. Of course slavery was the main reason, since this was the south's resource for mass agricultural production, and the main source of southern wealth In both cases, the constitution was written, interpreted as intending to provide a weak federal government, with the main responsibility of overall defense of the nation, and representation on foreign matters. But by and large, the idea was that the individual states were in a far better position to decide the matters of it's states citizens.
Money collected via taxes, were kept by the states and invested in the states' interests. Federal monies were raised solely by tariffs placed on foreign imports, etc Even today, many believe too much power has been yielded to the federal government. The framers of the Constitution never intended for the federal government to represent the states in such areas as education, agriculture, welfare, employment/unemployment, health, retirement and a host of other areas.
I personally agree with the concept of a weak central government. I would much rather pay all my individual tax to my state, and then each state allocating a certain portion of money to the federal government to enable the federal government to raise armies, provide for overall US defense, and again allow the federal government to tariff incoming goods. I believe my money would be better used when kept by my state, and spent on the states' residents for the benefit of my individual state.
Who knows better than my individual state what issues and needs are required "locally? See if you can develop this into something that's thought provoking. Good luck.
Revolutionary War: No taxation without representation! U. S.
Civil War: The southern states felt that their individual state government should have the right to determine most of the laws to be followed by the citizens living within its boundaries. The Federal government did not agree with this. ========================== I hope this is helpful.
Revolutionary War - overbearing government that taxed people who had no representation in government Civil War - the government did not interfere with people and allowed slavery to exist That should give you a couple of paragraphs. ;).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
