There is nothing you can do to "secure" a green card. One of the rules of having a green card is that you do not stay out of the country for more than 12 months. So, if you intend to stay outside the US for 15 months, you will lose your green card.

You come back for a short visit before 12 months is up and then fly out again. Just a guess.

There's a bit of confusion here. The USCIS told me that if you've been granted Permanent Residence, you only lose it if you do not intend to return to live permanently in the US. The Green card is simply evidence of that right.

If you're going to be residing outside the US but intend to return, they will take your card away but this does not invalidate your PR status. It simply means that you have to apply for a re-entry visa before you leave via Form I-131. Note - before, not after.

The re-entry stamp in your passport allows you to enter without a Green Card or a visa; once back in, you can then apply for a new card. BTW, whenever you re-enter the US with a Green card, they always ask how long you've been gone. Anything more than a month and they start asking you questions - so coming back every three months or so is not enough unless you have a good explanation.

Evidence of intention to reside permanently includes property, family ties, bank accounts etc. You will still need to file a US tax return while absent.But...one of the really frustrating things about the USCIS is that quite often their local offices contradict both each other and what it says on their website. So your best bet is to go and talk with them.

Thanks for the answer as it has helped me to understand that what I should do........... cheers....... imu 7 months ago .

One more thing I want ask is that do I have to apply for a rentry form now or when I am going to be leaving after 4 months its a bit of confusion here,as I am already outside the us ...its been nine months I still have 1 month to go back within the 11 months time period but I have some family issues so I don't intend to travel back within the time period,so I want to find out that do I apply for the re entry form in advance to the embassy or wait till I leave in four months time in which my green cards limit will exceed....... cheers imu 7 months ago .

Hmmm....you may have a problem because you are supposed to apply for the re-entry permit before you leave. If you want to keep your PR status, you need to make time to go back to the US, apply for a re-entry visa and leave again once you've got it. My understanding is that you can only apply for a re-entry permit if you are currently in the US; if you are absent without one and you show up 15 months later with your Green card, the USCIS may well deem that you have forfeited your right to residency.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
