Oh, I know the feeling....we had a neighbors cat who was killing bunnies in our yard a few years ago--it was terrible. But there isn't a lot you can do; it's not the cats fault--they are doing what comes naturally to them. If you know who the owner is, you could ask them to keep their cat at home (but some owners just let their cats out the door without a thought as to the cat's safety or to what it might do).
If you have an Animal Control for your county or state, you can call them, but that could mean that the cat will probably be put down. You could get a live trap and try to capture the cat(s) yourself...but then you have the responsibility of finding the owner or a home for the cat. You are in a predicament!
Fencing your yard would be an expensive option, and might not keep them out completely, anyway. Oh--get a dog! Then you won't have cats--but no bunnies or birds, either....
Schellli has given you another alternative; just remember if you do something to the cat such as poisoning it and it's found out you can be charged with a crime...
Thank you for your suggestions. Friend13 6 months ago .
I do not want to hurt the cat I just do not want it on my property. I have a 4 year old maltese dog. If I were to let him loose in the neighborhood I would get in trouble but it upsets me that it is an acceptable practice to allow cats free to roam the streets, go in neighbors yards and go home when they are done.

I totally agree with you about wandering cats. But what can you do?! They are doomed to a shorter life, which is sad.
Poor kitties, if they're stray it's some human's fault and they do need to eat. Don't be afraid of them- cat's are wonderful companions, I have 3. amazon.com/Contech-Electronics-CRO101-Sc... com/Contech-Electronics-CRO101-Scarecrow-Motion-Activated/dp/B000071NUS/ref=sr_1_9?

Well, you can handle this humanely, by capturing them with an animal trap and turning them over to the animal shelter, or inhumanely, by killing them with poisoned food. It's unfortunate that the innocent animal has to be dealt with in this manner due to careless/thoughtless owners but feral animals are dangerous and desease carriers.
Everything just wants to live. I'm glad you like birds & bunnies. I wouldn't worry too much about the bunnies as they seem to not have too much trouble replenishing the sacrificed ones.
I wouldn't worry about the birds either. They're all doing their own thing. I suggest you do the same & just observe nature, the bad along with the good.(personally I feel this proves there is no god because if I was god nothing would have to die so that something else could live.)bunnies have no defense, only lots of procreating.
Don't fear cats; just respect them.
There are cat repellents that you can use that are safe for plants and animals, Just spread this around the perimeter of your property and cats won't enter. google.com/products/catalog?q=cat+repellent+for+garden&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=w8O&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=ivnsfd&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=967&bih=616&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=13386187891185228560&sa=X&ei=_CfsTbfTJITiiALR6YCA&ved=0CH0Q8wIwBA &biw=967&bih=616&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=13386187891185228560&sa=X&ei=_CfsTbfTJITiiALR6YCA&ved=0CH0Q8wIwBA.
Thank you so much for your sugestion that sounds perfect friend13 6 months ago .
You're welcome, this system seems best, no poison, no expensive fencing, I am a cat person, currently with 3, I've adopted 2 feral cats, what Shelli said about ferals being dangerous is soooooo not true, they are wild, but can and do make wonderful loving pets if given time and the proper care. I'm sorry you are afraid of cats, did you have a bad experience with one? Another thing you can try is sound aversion, one of those little hand held airhorns, would send any stray cat running.
You would just give them a blast, the sharp loud noise would enough to make then run for the hills. http://www.google.com/search?q=airhorn&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=airhorn&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=PFz&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=ivns&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=Pg_tTai9CuTTiALwrpjiCA&ved=0CFUQrQQ&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=ed07bd8d597ca972&biw=967&bih=616 &fp=ed07bd8d597ca972&biw=967&bih=616.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
