I am looking for russian-english text books for grade-school level science, math, etc. Can anyone advise?

The Amazon kindle is the best e-book reader on the market. With 8 weeks battery life, connection to Amazon Prime, and a capacity to hold over 100,000 books, you will be excited. Get it now!

The texts are for two recent immigrants from Russia who as yet have only a few words in English. The fourth-grader in particular needs help in catching up with her classmates. This is tough. Russian textbooks are almost impossible to find. My wife is an ESL teacher with a growing group of Russian immigrants, all of whom have next to no English.

She spent hours trying to track down quality grade-level textbooks for them and got absolutely nowhere, even after working with several refugee organizations and even the Russian consulate. In the end she learned that part of the problem is the shortage of Russian textbooks IN RUSSIA ITSELF! It sounds like your two kids are in the exact same boat as her students, plus it doesn't help that most Russians don't start school until age 6 (they skip Kindergarten).

I know this "answer" isn't really an answer, but I hope it helps you to at least not invest too much time in trying to locate these resources as they truly are scarce. Your best bet is going to be to try to focus solely on their English proficiency first, and content second. Hopefully your state won't require them to take any of the usual standardized tests since they're relatively new to the country.

Best of luck to you! Sources: This is my opinion.

1 newbie1561179, regarding your answer "This is tough. ":My thoughts are "ouch"; I do live in a state with a "test them till they drop" pedagogy. Alas.

The first-grader will be okay by the time we barrage him with state-mandated tests, but the fourth-grader has already been slapped with one state test (less than a week after her arrival in the country! ) and has yet to face the science exam. What a system.

But, thank you, Mr. 156119, for your answer.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
