I am the mother of the expectant Dad, should we invite our personal friends who do not know the expectant Mom and Dad Our son and his wife live out of town and we are having a baby shower for them with family that live in our town, my husband and myself have a lot of friends that are so thrilled that we are finally going to be grandparents (our first), I would like to invite our friends, however they do not know my son and his wife. If she is outgoing and likes to meet new people, then go for it! If she is shy and more reserved, she will probably already be feeling nervous about being the center of attention at the baby shower as it is. 3) How big is the party location?

If it is large enough, you will need to entertaining your friends anyhow, so maybe you can have some time in the kitchen or dining area while she is in the livingroom, etc., so she could spend some more private time of the party with her immediate family as well. Your DIL might be thrilled if you involve her. And, possibly by inviting everyone, she and your son would get everything on their registry in one fell swoop. Which, might put them both at ease.

You'll have to weigh this based on what you know about your DIL and her family.
