A guy" is either entirely stupid or lying through his teeth. However, the Marine Corps is the only branch that will guarantee you a flight training spot before you finish a four-year NROTC/Marine Option contract. The AF NEVER guarantees flight training, neither does the Navy.
First you don't "join" The Corps or the AF as an officer (which is what all pilots are), you apply to one of the officer programs under an aviation contract...but the answer to your question is the "guy" told you wrong...Marine Fixed wing aviation flies the C-130 along with Jets.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
