I asked someone to be a friend yesterday, and the person replied back with "Why?" How absurd it that?

Could be a legitimate question I don't know who you asked, but it's entirely possible that they don't know what the Friends/Faves are for. It may be that they just come here to ask or answer questions, and aren't really concerned with the social aspect. Don't worry about it.

I've only been here since April, and I remember wondering why I got a friend invite, too. I won't address the "details" comments since you've already talked about that in the discussion board. If they like to answer questions, tell them the reason why is so its easier for you to forward them questions that might interest them..

Maybe not so much absurd, as telling First, let me just play devil's advocate here and suggest that maybe this Askviller was genuinely confused about the purpose of having "Friends" on this site. So perhaps they were looking for advice and info about the haps with Askville. Maybe?

Possibly? Ok, maybe not. Otherwise I'd say that you were just given a very good way to quickly recognize a mistake you made by wanting to be a friend with this person.

You misjudged. It happens to the best of us. Now you can wash your hands of the whole affair, have a cup of tea, and stare at all the beautiful pictures (especially the blue, blinky ones) of all of the friends you do have who value your Friendship.

Try not to let it get you down so much. (PS - I'm actually a little afraid of how high some of the Askvillers IQs are already...too many more smarty pants might be a scary thing) PenguinSage's Recommendations My Friend is Sad: An Elephant and Piggie Book (Elephant and Piggie) Amazon List Price: $8.99 Used from: $3.14 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5 (based on 4 reviews) .

Why not?! One thing you do not say is if this person is a newbie. I do have to say that when I was a newbie, I never identified myself as such.

I just jumped right in with both feet! Lol off the top of my head, i'm thinking that if this person is a newbie, maybe they don't "get" the Friends thing. Although, I do see your point in that "Why?

" is a pretty stupid response. I mean, if they are new, a more appropriate response would be something to the effect of "I'm not sure what being "Friends" means. I'm new to Askville and not sure what being a "friend" entails.

Does it mean I have to do something special?" or how about "Sure...thanks! " rofl I agree it is a dumb response. I guess I would think...do I "know" this person?

Have I seen them around? I would look at the person's profile for clues to if I wanted to be their friend...their questions asked, responses to questions, even their avatar and name. I mean, your avatar and name alone do not suggest your an ax murderer or some weirdo!

You look like a pretty nice nut to me. ......or......... maybe they did look at your name and thought - she's a nut job, a real nut case, a total nut! Lol you should give them the benefit of the doubt and write back and ask them what in the heck "Why?" means exactly.

I do not think that Why? Means they don't want to be your friend.Hey...maybe they think you're hitting on them! Lol ask them and find out...and then let us know!

Please give the person in question the benefit of the doubt. Although I've been posting here for several months, I've only really gotten involved in the last few weeks on a regular basis. As I've described the situation hereto others, in Askville you are in a somewhat alien environment with its own peculiar rules and cultural norms. It is sort of like your first month of high school, where you have to learn the routine?

Perhaps the person in question just poorly phrased a legitimate inquiry as to what being a Friend was and what it entailed? When I received my first Friend request not ever long ago, I had no idea what it meant. " "I wrote to my friend on Facebook and never got a replied what should I do" "I asked a question about Windows Validation issues yesterday but no one replied so I'll ask again.

How would you feel if the person you considered a TRUE friend stabs you behind your back and say something bad against u.

I wrote to my friend on Facebook and never got a replied what should I do.

I asked a question about Windows Validation issues yesterday but no one replied so I'll ask again.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
