I don't have dental insurance and have gingivitis. How can I treat it on my own with over the counter items? Preferably organic or natural methods?

I have never had gingivitis so perhaps I am talking out of turn. I find that my Grandmother's homemade toothpaste made of salt and baking soda helps both my teeth and my gums. Recently, I took my flossing up a major level by adding an offbrand - very inexpensive - similar to the Waterpik for increasing my dental care beyond flossing with the water jet cleaning in between my teeth.

I also added Grandmother's solution to the water jet reservoir and it is fantastic at cleaning! I hope this inexpensive tidbit is helpful to you. Best of luck!

Good answers here already. I just want to add that there is a brush called a Sulcabrush that is excellent for dental health (in addition to regular brushing and flossing). It may be sold in grocery stores and drug stores, I don't know, my dentist gives one to me when I visit. It has a tuft of bristles on each end, and you "walk" it all the way around the gum line, front and back.

If I use it diligently I always get a good comment from the hygienist. Nothing will replace a visit to a dentist and periodonist but good home care is the next best thing. I grew up using baking soda as toothpaste.

Good luck!

I've got pretty messed up teeth. I'm going to a cheap dentist for all my teeth pulls and whatnot, but since I don't really have the money to get all the work done I try natural things just to keep myself from feeling too much pain. Raw garlic burns pretty bad, but I've found putting it on your teeth gets rid of alot of pain and kills some bacteria as well.

Try getting a bunch of raw garlic into your blood stream as well, really helps with any sort of infection and will prevent it from spreading. Other then that, brusha brusha brusha.

If you truly just have gingivitis, and not periodontal disease on top of that, then the most natural way to treat it is to be very diligent with your home care. Brush, and more importantly, floss between every tooth twice a day. Initially, when you do this, your gums will bleed MORE, but don't let that stop you - keep with it.

After about three days of this regeiime, your gums will stop bleeding, the redness and puffiness of the gums will subside and your mouth will feel a whole lot better. After that, make sure you keep up this oral hygiene habit so the disease doesn't return.

I think you should just shop around for a dentist. I get coupons for free checkups and teeth cleaning all the from dental offices that want to build up their business. Even if they tell you that you need more treatment you cannot afford, at least you will know!

You can get insurance or dental insurance....Please view my hub for more information about insurance...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
