Geez, I found the updates very annoying.... So I turned the updates completely off, period. It may be useful to very casual users, but if I am checking Askville every now and then, these updates are useless and even with moderate activities, updates are just too many, quickly fill up my email inbox. Annoying.

Off, Zip ......

Yes they are I used to receive them too but the other day I turned most of them off. What I've discovered is that because of the disorganised clutter that is our My Account page, it's quite difficult to see what needs your attention with just a quick scan. I honestly think there are just too many blue links all over the place, and it's tough to see what has changed since your last visit.

With the notifications, it was easy for me to know when I needed to vote, or when a question had received an answer. Since turning them off I've wasted quite a bit of time squinting and having to focus more carefully to see what issues need my attention. Also, since the Inbox only shows the total number of messages in there, and not whether any are new or not, if I don't get a notification that I've received a new message it's unlikely that I'll realise.

I just can't remember how many messages I had before to know whether the tally has gone up. If you find the notifications are too frequent, you can always scale them back by setting it to notify you less frequently - for example only send activity updates once per week, or only send one notification when all answers are submitted rather than one notification for each answer submitted.

Not in the least I turned mine off through the settings. I really get enough emails during the day that I don’t want/need. The thing about it is, I can check up on what’s happened recently with my account by signing in, which I do frequently enough.

I can’t see the point in also getting emails. I think if you don’t use askville often & only want to be notified when there is an answer to a question you’ve asked, the email notification could be an asset Sources: my hotmail account PeaOnTheLoose's Recommendations The Hamster Revolution: How to Manage Your Email Before It Manages You Amazon List Price: $19.95 Used from: $13.45 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5 (based on 9 reviews) .

Updates Not really. I pretty much delete them as soon as I open them. I should probably just cancel them, as I use My Account to see what's going on with my questions and answers.

I can't say that I have ever really found them more useful than just looking at My Account. But then again, I'm not one who really studies the details and points and ratings...so other people might find them much more useful than I do. It will be interesting to see what others think; maybe I am missing out on some feature I have overlooked!

Not me I just turned that off because I didn't see the point. If you click on "my settings" under your account you can stop the emails.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
