The flute has two advantages -- you don't need to buy / insert reeds which can go bad or crack -- and you are more likely to be able to play a flute solo. The reasons for choosing clarinet -- its easy to learn other reed instruments like the saxaphone, oboe, etc, and is, perhaps, usable in more styles of music. But the choice is entirely personal.

I think flute is the right choice and for me the clarinet's use of reeds settles it. You can always pick up / learn the clarinet later. I played trumpet (and bugle in scouts) but later learned the French Horn and, much later, Appalachian Dulcimer.

Please choose flute! I played clarinet in high school and then later in life played flute. Flute is better, and also is lighter to carry!

Pick the one you can do the best. I could not do the flute higher notes...couldn't get my mouth to shape that way that was needed...but I love the flute sound. Pick the one you will practise hard on.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
