I have a desk top connected by dsl cable and want to add wireless laptop. How do I connect?

You need to purchase a wireless router. Plug the DSL line into the router, and then extend a cable from the router to the desktop. Set up the wireless to connect to the router.

I've seen some new hardware that basically plugs into a usb. Is that just so you can use the laptop independently with a new provider? As for the router, does my desk top have to run on wireless as well?

You could run ethernet cables to both the desktop and laptop, if you wanted to.

OK, that will work in the laptop, but it needs to connect to something. And the something it will connect to is the wireless router. Chances are, unless your laptop is REALLY old, it has wireless built in.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
