I have a set of Raphael Tuck & Sons Rocking Animal paper cutouts. Where can I find more information on them? I know they were made between 1907-1910, but I can't find any more information.

The "Teddy Bear" motif that was popularized by Teddy Roosevelt is the subject of almost half the cards in this collection. Most depict bears engaged in human activities. In essence this collection is useful for studying popular culture in the United States prior to the First World War.

Raphael Tuck & Sons Rocking Animal paper cutouts... Raphael Tuck & SonsRaphael Tuck & Sons, publishers from the mid 1800's into the early 20th Century. Raphael Tuck & Sons were proudly known to be the Publishers to Her Majesties the King and Queen, with printing houses in London, Paris and New York. They began in London, England in 1866, selling pictures and frames.

Raphael Tuck was joined by his three sons in 1871 and published their first Christmas greeting card. In 1893 they were granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria. Adolph Tuck, one of the sons, produced their first picture postcard in 1894 of Mt.

Snowden in Wales, which was sold to tourists visiting the site. The first series of numbered postcards was printed In 1898 which was a set of 12 lithographed vignette views of London, numbered 1 to 12 with the "Tower of London" being postcard #1. They entered the postcard market in the United States in 1900 with an office in New York.

American artists designed many of the postcards, but the cards were printed in Europe (Germany, Saxony, England) and then returned to the states for sale. Unfortunately, like many other postcard printers and manufacturers of their time, the history, records, original paintings and postcards of Raphael Tuck & Sons were destroyed during the bombing blitz of London during World War II. Raphael Tuck & Sons were prolific printers and produced Books, Postcards, Greeting Cards, Die Cut Cards, Fringed Silk Cards, Scrapbooks, Puzzles and more.

Set of Raphael Tuck & Sons Rocking Animal paper cutouts In this postcard, German Kaiser Wilhelm is depicted by the fox wearing the military picklehaub helmet and German officer clothing. The scene alludes to the fact that the cities of Calais, Paris, Petrograd, and Verdun were viewed by the Germans as insignificant to control, despite the fact that they were critical to any hope of German success in the war. The postcard was most likely produced after the Battle of Verdun, which occurred from February 1 to December 15, 1916, given that it is the latest battle shown in the tree.

FABLE: One hot summer's day a fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch. "Just the thing to quench my thirst," said the fox. Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch.

HISTORY: This postcard is from a set published by Raphael Tuck & Sons, circa 1918, in their Oilette Series No. 8484. Collectively, the six postcards in this set were referred to as "Aesop's Fables Up To Date."The artist of this postcard was Francisco y Lengo Sancha, a Spaniard who was born in 1874 and died in 1936.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
