I have dark brown almost black hair but want to go browner. Since I have olive skin I don't know what shade to choose? I was thinking maybe a shade or 2 lighter but I don't want anything too drastic.

I would like to still look natural and have the brown compliment my skin tone. Im worried it will turn brassy though. If its possible to get away with doing it at home , that would be great.

I have the same skin color and hair and I go a couple shades lighter and have it done professionally Theres a good chance it won't turn out how you want it to if you do it yourself. The professionals are usually better at mixing up the colors to get exactly what you want.

Revlon Color Silk, Dark Soft Brown #33. I have used it for years and it’s a natural dark brown with hints of red. It looks so natural that recently my coworkers were surprised to find out that I color my hair.

And what I like most about it is that I can color my hair and the next day it isn’t obvious to everyone. Every other color I tried would be so dark that it would take several weeks to look natural. My hair is normally much darker, but not quite black and this covers it quite well.

What I did was watch my hairdresser put color on someones hair. They put it on with a brush on the roots first. Leave it on for awhile and then put it on the rest.

When you change your color for the first time you need to apply it all over. But after the initial coloring, follow the directions for the retouch. I found if I put it on the roots with the brush, leave it on the roots for 20 min, and then put it all over my hair for 10 more minutes, I get good gray coverage and a natural look.

Even my hairdresser comments on what a nice color it is and I’ve had strangers in stores ask me if I dye my hair and if so, what I use. Oh, and I also have deep olive skin color. It’s also very reasonably priced.

I’ve tried all the more expensive brands and like this the best. When it’s on sale 2 boxes for $5.00 I stock up! I found that WalMart doesn't carry this color but CVS, Meijers, and most other stores do.

Any color you put on Darker brown/black that is LIGHTER will turn your hair RED. We all have some base red in our hair especially brunnettes. There are 7 stages of haircolor.

Blond, black and 5 really ugly red colors.....a professinal colorist would mostly likely lighten you up to a blond/gold state, then tone it to brown. For example if you have dark brown hair and you put a light brown hair color on....you will get reddish light brown. I have the same hair color as you and I was platinum blond for years and also a redhead, I haven’t dyed my hair in years so now its just dark brown with sun lightened ends.

You may want a professional to do a low light in your hair...do a blond weave then tone the strands a nice brown. I made tons of money correcting client’s daughters who decided to "do it themselves"..thinking if they use a light brown on super dark hair it will be that color......unless your prepared, for red you will not like it. In order to go 2 shades lighter you need to use peroxide, you CANNOT lighten hair without it.....and if you do it yourself & make a mistake...then it will need to be corrected and both things can damage your hair.

I highly recommend a COLORIST, not a hair dresser(jack of all trades) but an actual person who is an EXPERT in color & correction.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
