We aren't. The US has no actual debt in the dictionary sense of the world. In reality, China bought United States Treasury Bonds as investments.

They give us some money, and we agree to repay that plus a little interest over time. American interest payments are one of the foundations of the Chinese economy. Federal Treasury Bonds are one of the best investments on Earth, even with republican obstructionism constantly endangering our credit rating.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
