Mee too, I have everything else in light colors to emphasize the dark & give it light. I actually have a laminate flooring in my entire downstairs - which I love. It is ideal for cleanups - animals or kids - either way you just wipe it up.

I chose a light pine type finnish because my downstairs is not very sunny either. I left the walls white in the kitchen - but I am thinking about doing the area below the chair rail in a light sage green. The white is tough to keep clean - but I love the white cabinets too.

If you do not care for the laminate/faux wood flooring & If you are into it - I would do a black and white (chess or checker board) floor & use accessories for the color.

Anything can go Maybe a tone on tone white wallpaper and a wood or laminate floor. Use lots of bright accents such as red, orange or pink.

2 I have a friend that just redid her kitchen. It's black, white and green and it's gorgeous! She painted all her white cabinets a green w/black glazing, then did did black counter tops and a bold black/white wallpaper.

I think she has granite counter tops. She spent mega bucks but it's so good looking. She's one of those creative people.(I guess wallpaper is coming back to some extent).

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
