Personally I think cream and light cherry are some really light colors . You may want to use darker colors to 1st set the mood.2nd hide dirt/ grease ...now look at what style you want:is it a modern kitchen or traditional? You can stay monochromatic by using tan, brown,or a rusty red even.. or go all out with a blue, darker lavender, violet .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
