Not so easy............. Immigration is constantly changing their rules and regulations. Specially now, that the unemployment is so high unless you are being transferred from a company in your country to work in the USA, you will have a hard time. The country cannot handle more people trying for jobs of the citizens and legal residents.

How is the quota for Uganda? Quotas are set for each country. Back in 1965 I immigrated from Brazil to the USA with my parents. My father was director of the American company that transferred us.

My fiancee was to follow. He was not able to get permission to travel. At that time one had to have a job waiting already. Quotas were in place.

Jobs in the USA had to be on hold for the servicemen returning from Vietnam. So fiancee decided to come as a visitor, look for a job and then apply. Well... because he had applied for residency first they denied him a visitor pass assuming he would stay illegally. 3 years we tried getting job without success. In frustration I contacted a state NJ senator and her secretary was very patient listening to my problems.

She called me back 2 days later giving me the name of a contact in immigration suggesting that I call her and that lady would tell me how to get my fiancee in the country. That's what we did. I had to go back to Brazil get married and bring my fiancee in the country as my husband.

It was simple and took 3 months to get everything worked out. We had to sign papers that he would not depend on USA charity, my employer had to state that I had a secure job and my husband would get medical benefits, I had to have police and FBI background checks and the whole thing cost me US $3.80 in stamps. During the first 3 years we were offered many illegal deals and options of false and non-existent contracts of work however we are honest and never ever considered doing something that would make us look over our shoulders for the rest of our lives.

Ask your brother to call immigration and get the facts for Uganda residents and what are the rules for you to immigrate. If you go to your consulate in Uganda and the quotas are closed they will not allow you to even come for a visit. Your brother has to do the leg work for you here in the US.

Good luck. I hope you make it. USA is a great country!

The "Green Card" (it isn't green anymore) is an authorization to legally work in the country. That your brother has this document is nice, but it says nothing about whether you are able to get one because there is typically a waiting list of applicants for one. You would be served by having the pre-existing rules met, first: have an employer want YOU to work for his company, such that you are obtaining a green card to come to the U.S. to work at a job that U.S. citizens are not applying for.

And with our unemployment at 12%-15%, that won't be likely. I don't think it'll happen.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
