I live in the U.S. In Houston, TX. If I want to fly from here to Bangkok, Thailand is it shorter to fly East or West? Going around the globe from Houston, there must be some point where it is shorter to go West rather than East or visa-versa.
How does one find out what that point is? (NB: this is NOT a question about airline schedules since it involves a chartered plane! ) Asked by Puzzled 35 months ago Similar questions: live Houston TX fly Bangkok Thailand shorter East West Games & Leisure > Travel.

West You are right, it is definitely it is shorter for you to travel west and that would be true of someone who travels from New York as well. The only way I can think of how to check at what point it becomes better to travel eastbound is to check actual travel times. When I worked as a travel agent we never routed anyone via Europe to Asia because of time and cost (it is generally less expensive to travel west).
Clients would go via Europe if of course they were stopping there before going onto Asia. Have a great trip! .
1 If you look at the map, you would think it probably would be shorter to go east, but I know from experience that doesn't typically happen. Of course if you are chartering a plane, maybe you fly which ever direction you want to. Wonder if it has to do with airports, etc.? .

2 9,633 miles, there is no answer if heading east or west. I agree look on a map, flights for the most part are the shortest distance.

3 Flying west is nonstop for much of the distance. Its quicker and probably cheaper than stopping at all the EU airports. This user has been banned from Askville.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
