Use Goody ouchless elastic bands - you can get them from department store such as Target or K-mart. Unless you want to get really bold, in which case you can use a colored ribbon.

Trust me, french braiding it would be more so. The only way to secure the hair without having a hairstyle that women wear would be to tuck it under your hat, and you probably aren't allowed to wear a hat in school. Either wear the hairstyle with confidence or change the hairstyle.

There are lots of ways to tie your hair - but they will be just as much women's hairstyles as the simple ponytail, if not more.
