I need an external hard drive between 500GB to 1TB that doesn't require reformatting between mac and pc?

I need an external hard drive between 500GB to 1TB that doesn't require reformatting between mac and pc. I am fairly new to external hard drives. I want something fairly simple and reliable that I can use between a mac and pc without reformatting it.

I would also like the hard to to be user friendly in the way that I can just drag and drop files as opposed to being forced to back up all music, video, etc. At one time. FAT32 The only disk format that would be compatible between Mac and PC would be to format the drive with FAT32. Both computers will be able to read and write to the disk. Keep in mind, however, that this is an old format, and you can't have files over 2 gb.To tell you the truth, hard drives are so cheap, why not just buy 2 - one for the Mac and one for the PC?

As to bypassing backup software that comes with some external drives, I build my own. I buy bare internal drives and put them into external enclosures. I like the Vantec enclosures.

You would just drag and drop the files. And the PC drives come already formatted with NTFS, so other than running some software to activate the drive, in 2 minutes you're all set..

1 You could also partition the disk. X% = NTFS or FAT32 for the PC and Y% = HFS or HFS+ for the MAC. Each OS would only recognize it's own partition.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
