Get the surfaces scrupulously clean with a wire brush, both outside the pipe and inside each fitting. Make sure there is no water inside the pipes and no slow dripping either. Put on plenty of paste flux.
The pipe and fitting must be straight and loose, not hard to slip on due to some off-center angle. Heat up the pipe and fittings. Move the flame away and touch the solder to the joint.
Add plenty of solder. Don't move the joint until it's cool.
