I once heard on the radio that Superbowl Sunday was the number one day in the USA for domestic violence to occur. I was also told by the nurse who runs our random alcohol and drug testing at work that the most positive results occur the Monday following the Superbowl. Has anyone had any experiences here to back this data up?

Any thoughts if you think this could be true? I remember my Dad and Uncle getting into a heated debate during one Superbowl but no alcohol was involved and it concerned politics. I have no concrete proof-however I believe that this is true. I base my answer on personal experience from working with people who have experienced this violence. Many women (a few men) came to the shelter I worked with on Superbowl Sunday and the Monday after.

The game seems to evoke very deep, primitive emotions in many viewers. ’Reasons’ for the violence are many: The tv reception gets messed up The children are not silent Not enough beer to last the game Snacks ran out-or were not the right ones A bad call was made A favorite player didn’t make the ’right’ play Someone called and interrupted the game Someone came to the house and interrupted the game The ’wrong’ team won The list goes on and on. In reality there is no excuse-just no implulse control and unacceptable behavior.

The game watcher can not yell at the players so he takes it out on his family. Family members, the wife or girlfriend, in particular are the most assessable, convenient and easiest to abuse. I know of many women who are absolutely in terror whenever a big game is coming on-because they know that something will upset the game and and they will 'pay the price'.

As to why the 'victim' allows this to happen is another entirely separate issue and is not part of the question-but is part of the ever increasing problem of domestic violence in this country. I worked with victims of family violence for nearly 2 decades and have found this to be true. Sources: personal experience .

Well as you saw..... ....by the response I got to my question, concerning menopause. I can total beleive that super bowl sunday is the day when most crazy females beat their hubbies. Why such a phenomina occurs, I have no idea, but the corolation between wives beating their husbands and football certainly exsists!

As to the alcohol, prolly a way for men to drown their shame. Sources: flips warped world .

Goodbye! Said: 1 I've heard that, too. I'm lucky to not have experienced it, though.

I hang out with a pretty peaceful crowd, and go to pretty peaceful places. Still, if violence broke out, I'm the kind of person who would remove myself, pronto. The people who can't handle their alcohol need to learn moderation, or not drink.

Why ruin a really fun day? .

2 It must be that some folks really cut loose for this occasion. I would have guessed more drinking would occur on New Years Eve. Maybe a lot of guys produce mega testosterone on this day or something.

3 Domestic violence is a real problem but the superbowl-violence link has been discredited as urban myth. See Snopes for an account of how the story started and snowballed in the media. snopes.com/crime/statistics/superbowl.asp .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
