I am a retired RN and worked in an acute care clinic that specialized in orthopedic injuries. You rest a sprained ankle for a day or 2 and then YES you need to gently walk on it. These other answers are wrong.
You will actually get more long-term problems from immobilizing it.
I was going to say: probably not too serious until I saw your update. Oh shoot that really sucks I'm so sorry?. Can't believe you had to walk 2 miles on a friggin broken ankle.
You're brave! Really hope you feel better soon:).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
