For local networks: E-mail goes from sender to the SMTP server which sends it to the POP 3 server and then the receiver picks it from POP 3 server through email client. For different networks: E-mail goes from sender to the SMTP server which sends it to receiver’s SMPT server, and it forwards the same to receiver’s POP 3 server and then the receiver picks it from POP 3 server through email client.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
