Few things come to mind: Table lamp running LED's Telescope Pistol (fake of course) Magnefier.
I would consider a clock with external alarm bells.
Thumb drives seem to be quiete esay to steampunk.
Oh I love steampunk stuff, but I haven't gotten around to making anything. However, I do have some ideas for a steampunk novel, so maybe I should work on that. I've provided some fun links below for steampunk hacks.
If you haven't done any steampunk hacks before, you might want to start with something small/simple, like a watch. Look around your house and see what you can mod!
I recommend a simple brass item with a decent patina. The first things I steampunkified were lantern-looking outdoor lighting fixtures. They look reasonably antique and it's a snap to add some LEDs and (if you can make it watertight) the ultrasonic mist generators.
Makes an awesome looking 'power cell' or something of the like. URL of an example lamp: arcadianlighting.com/cm-z114.html.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
